Organised by the Industry Programs Unit of MIFF, these public-access ticketed events are for you – whether you’re a film or media student; an aspiring or existing screenwriter, editor, director or producer; a film aficionado; or just curious!

MIFF’s Industry Programs Unit also organises MIFF 37°South Market, Australia's only festival-based film co-financing market (which includes Breakthru Screenings, PostScript&Direct and Books at MIFF) and MIFF Accelerator, Australia's only screen director development workshop at a film festival, preparing short filmmaking talent for a future career in feature filmmaking.

Adrian Wootton Talks Mavericks, Spies & Tough Guys

Presented by MIFF 37ºSouth Market & Accelerator, Adrian Wootton returns exclusively to Melbourne for more of his acclaimed Illustrated Film Talks exploring the relationship between cinema and great modern cultural icons.

A former director of the London Film Festival, British Film Institute and the UK’s National Film Theatre, Wootton is currently CEO of Film London & The British Film Commission, director of the Crime Scene Festival and a program advisor to the Venice Film Festival, London Film Festival and Italy’s Courmayeur Noir Fest. He contributes articles on screen culture to The Guardian and Sight & Sound, regularly broadcasts and reviews films on BBC Radio, was awarded an honorary doctorate by The University of East Anglia and is a Norwich University Film & Media Visiting Professor.

Presented by MIFF 37ºSouth Market & Accelerator, celebrated LA-based developer, writer and lecturer Wendall Thomas returns exclusively to Melbourne for more of her hugely popular series unlocking the secrets of film writing with a series of four stand-alone all-day seminars. Thomas has written and developed projects for Disney, Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal, Showtime, PBS and NBC. Her recent client films include Any Day Now (Winner Audience Award Tribeca 2012), The Truth Below, The Space Between and The Republic of Two.
