MIFF PREMIERE FUND AWARD NOMS!

MIFF Premiere Fund-supported TIM WINTON'S THE TURNING has scored a slew of nominations for the upcoming AACTA AWARDS, including Best Film, Direction, Adapted Screenplay, Editing, Actor (Hugo Weaving), Actress (Rose Byrne) and Supporting Actress (Mirah Foulkes). Fellow MIFF Premiere Fund-supported feature 100 BLOODY ACRES scored two nominations - Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (Angus Sampson). In the documentary categories, MIFF Premiere Fund-supported IN BOB WE TRUST received a Best Editing nomination, while there was a Best Direction nomination for fellow MIFF Premiere Fund-supported documentary AIM HIGH IN CREATION!

THE TURNING BEST PIC NOMINATION

Fresh from its MIFF 2013 world premiere and successful Australia-wide release, MIFF Premiere Fund-supported TIM WINTON'S THE TURNING has been nominated as Best Feature Film in the 7th annual Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA). The APSAs will occur on December 12th. Meantime Anthony Chen, an alumnus of the MIFF Accelerator emerging director workshop, has received an APSA nomination as Best Director for his film ILO ILO.

PATRICK ELECTRIFIES CINEMAS

Hailed by The Guardian as "a satisfying onslaught of madness and mayhem," PATRICK is a MIFF Premiere Fund co-financed remake of the classic 1970s telekinetic thriller from director Mark Hartley (NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD). Opening nationally on October 17th, the film stars Rachel Griffiths (MURIEL'S WEDDING), Charles Dance (GAME OF THRONES), Sharni Vinson (YOU'RE NEXT; BAIT 3D) and Damon Gameau (BALIBO). Watch the trailer.

IN BOB, IN CINEMAS

Hailed by The Age as "one of the best Australian films of any kind in years," during its MIFF 2013 world premiere season, MIFF Premiere Fund-supported IN BOB WE TRUST opens October 17th in Melbourne. The film tells the story of the controversial forced-retirement of Melbourne identity Father Bob Maguire. See the trailer.

THE TURNING IN CINEMAS NOW - COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Following its record-breaking world premiere season at MIFF 2013, the MIFF Premiere Fund-supported TIM WINTON'S THE TURNING is in cinemas now for a special limited season. Some 17 Australian directors, including Justin Kurzel (SNOWTOWN) and Robert Connolly (BALIBO) plus the film directing debuts of actors David Wenham and Mia Wasikowska, respond to the best-selling haunting book with a stellar cast including Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Harrison Gilbertson, Robyn Nevin, Miranda Otto, Susie Porter, Richard Roxburgh and Hugo Weaving. 

See the trailer and book tickets now for this unique cinema event.  During the special season, patrons receive a souvenir program at the cinema. 

To celebrate the release, Madman and MIFF Premiere Fund have run a competition giving away three DVD packs of films from directors Robert Connolly(BALIBO), Tony Ayres (HOME SONG STORIES), Warwick Thornton (SAMSON & DELILAH) & Jonathan auf der Heide (VAN DIEMEN’S LAND) who also direct chapters in THE TURNING. Congratulations to the winners: Brenda Nash (Victoria), Iolanda Capodanno (NSW) and Brian Mier (Victoria).

TELESCOPE AWARD ANNOUNCED

On the weekend, Film Critics Circle of Australia member and TeleScope Juror Russell Edwards announced the TeleScope Award winner: Northwest. The jury called the film "a gritty and often strangely beautiful film about belonging and not belonging in today's multicultural cities. This is a film that embraces politics and people – however unlovable."

The jury, along with MIFF, congratulate Danish director Michael Noer, his cast and crew.

THE MIFF PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS PRESENTED BY FOXTEL MOVIES

We are very proud to announce the winners of the 2013 MIFF People's Choice Awards, presented by Foxtel Movies: The Rocket (Best Feature) and The Crash Reel (Best Documentary).

Second and third placed features were Ashgar Farhadi's The Past and Felix van Groeningen's The Broken Circle Breakdown, respectively. Second and third placed documentaries were Marta Cunningham's Valentine Road and Australian-born director Nicholas D. Wrathall's Gore Vidal: The United States of Amnesia.
