Australia, 2010 (MIFF 2010, Homegrown)

Director: Yu-Hsiu Camille Chen

A story about secrets, loss and the desire to love.

Over one hot Australian Christmas, Susan discovers her breast cancer has spread, and one by one her daughters return to be by her side. Her ‘little sparrows' - Nina, Anna and Christine - each have their own place in the nest, under the care and love of their worldly mother. Each has her own story to confront.

Filmmaker Yu-Hsiu Camille Chen follows each of these women - with their faults, passions and love - as they struggle to define themselves. Through all the confusion, pain and unfinished business shines the spark of hope.

“I want to ask simple questions, meaningful ones. Why do we love? And how do we love?” - filmmaker Yu-Hsiu Camille Chen
