THE FLUFFER

USA, 2000 (MIFF 2001, International Panorama)

Director: Richard Glatzer,Wash West

Many worker have an "and other duties as directed" clause in their employment contract. Most don't expect it will entail oral sex. Naive country boy Sean heads to Hollywood planning on a career as a cinematographer. When he takes a job behind the camera for a dodgy company called Men of Janus, prodigious producers of gay porn classics including Citizen cum -- Sean is alarmed to find that his job description includes "fluffing". For the three people in Melbourne who vlaim to never seen a pornographic film, a "fluffer" has the responsibility for preparing male actors for their big scenes...and we don't mean wardrobe and make-up. Richard Glatzer and Wash West have directed a riotously funny but ultimately extremely touching glimpse behind the curtain o0f the gay porn industry. Sean's developing infatuation with star stud Johnny Rebel and his struggle t0 keep his career on track with compromise. Culminate in a drug and sex fuelled climactic collapse. A racey, tragi-comic triumph. Official selection at 2001 Berlin film festival.
