Hong Kong / Taiwan / Germany, 2007 (MIFF 2008, Neighbourhood Watch)

Director: Kenneth Bi

An original melding of spiritualism and action starring Jaycee Chan, son of martial-arts legend Jackie Chan, rounded out with spirited drumming sequences.

When Sid (Chan), the son of a triad boss, is caught with the wife of a rival leader, he flees Hong Kong at the urging of his father. Dispatched in secrecy to a village in Taiwan, Sid soon stumbles across a troupe of Zen drummers who help him find faith and discipline.

Fate intervenes, however, and Sid is forced to return to Hong Kong and face his rivals.

"Even if we find peace in a peaceful place, it seems that nirvana is elusive and we can never truly be in a state of perfect happiness because the next trial to test us is always around the corner." - filmmaker Kenneth Bi
